E. Hestke 1982 Journal ~ 2 km SE of Tres Rios, San Jose Prov. Costa Rica 1450m 19 July Arose 0630. Overcast, humid. May have rained lightly towards morning as car is wet, but everything else seems dry so more likely it's dew. Oscar called these mts. the Cerros de la Carpintera . There are many patches of forest within view, but they are hard to get to. There is a lot of human activity in the area and it's likely they all have paths slashed through them like this (but who knows) I only caught 2 Scotinomys, Duke caught 1 Scotinomys and one Oryzomys alfaroii, Phil caught 3 Scotinomys. We will head back to San Jose today + plan to karyotype the remaining animals. Skinned + stuffed 4 Scotinomys, then had breakfast. Coffee w/ Sr. Mora. We left a trap with him so he can try to catch something while we're gone. His address is: Sr. Oscar Mora Calle 5 Ave 22/24 Faborica Conos-Ticos San Jose, Costa Rica tel. 26-14-71 map to Mora farm from San Jose.
