E. Heste 1982 Journal 2.2 Km E (by rd) Trinidad, San José Prov., Costa Rica 2600m 16 July, cont too see where traps are being placed in the forest, so stopped ~1800. There are several patches of mature forest here- separated by small clear cuts. It looks about as patchy as a Doug fir forest in N. Calif. (mixture of forest/cuts). We camped at a roadside pull out 12.2 km. further east along Hwy 2. (saw a roadkill [unreadable] here.) 2.2 Km E (by rd) Trinidad, San José Prov., Costa Rica 2600m! 17 July Arose ~6:30. Clear, but everything is damp from the foggy night. Drove back to trap site + checked traps: upper line of 15: 2 Peromyscus nudipes 1 Reithrodonontmys sp. (small = mesalotis size) mexicanus? lower line down: 1 Oryzomys sp (small, dark) along hill 1 Peromyscus nudipes 1 Reithrodonontmys cooper (?) 1 Mustela frenata (see catalogue) We are unsure at present of some of the sp. of Reithrodonontmys + Oryzomys. There are 3 diff. Reithros and 2 diff Oryzomys (maybe 3). See catalogue of D.S. Rogers for final decisions. All animals captured will be catalogued there. Duke set 90 traps, caught: 2 Scotinomys teguina 7 Reithrodonontmys (3 sp.) 6 Peromyscus nudipes 1 Heteromys oresterus Phil set 80 traps, caught: 2 Oryzomys (1 small, 1 large) 1 Reithrodonontmys (small) 2 Peromyscus nudipes
