Heske 1982 Journal San José, San José Prov., to 2.2 km E (by rd) Trinidad, San José Prov., Costa Rica (elev. 2000m). 16 July Finally finished all preparations in town and left to begin trapping (1230). It rained heavily at ~1200, but is letting up; remains overcast. Some useful addresses in San José: Hotel Galilea: Avenida Central, Calle 13 speak English, very helpful - change money there at a rate of #62/#1. Room for 1 = $12.50. Pensión Canada: address unknown, another good (cheap) hotel Permit office: Av. 2, Calle 6, 3rd floor person in charge: Sr. (Dr.? ) Eduardo Lopez Pizarro Facultad de Medecina, Univ. of Costa Rica Pedro Leon or Tony Moreno speak English and are very outgoing, helpful (24-67-49 = Pedro's phone) P.S. the water is safe to drink. Followed Hwy 2 E. out of San José to Cartago. Continued S. on Hwy 2, missed turnoff to Copey and decided to trap in the vicinity of Trinidad. Began setting traps ~1530. Overcast, damp, cool. I set 40 traps (Sherman w/ scratch grain) in a line going down the hill from the rd. Forest is mostly lg. (~150' tall) oaks, other broadleafs unid., some pines in places - a large clearcut and landslide make for some dense secondary growth near the edge, lots of bamboo + other vines. 15 more traps set in mature forest further E along road, but traps all set near road edge. Getting too dark.
