Acayucan to Playa Escondida, Veracruz, Mexico
dec. cont: down than last spring - garden behind rooms much larger and forest cleared away. Also, it's still raining at 1600, and looks to continue.
So we prepared study skins, took tissues on all the rest of the animals not being taken back alive (~100). Turned in ~2200. Rain stopped, still overcast, humid but temp. about 20°c, so not too hot.
Vicinity of Playa Escondida, Sierra Tuxtlas, Veracruz, Mexico
20 December. Arose ~0700. Still overcast, humid, T°~20°c. Spent the morning washing some clothes, counting traps, etc. Set out a line of 20 Shermans w/ten scratch on the N side of the stream below our rooms. Similar to where I trapped last March - mostly mature broadleaf trees, lots of vines, small palms, + thick herbaceous understory ~.67m high. Patch of woods I set traps in bordered the field N. of the hotel where cattle are grazed.
Duke set 20 traps on the side of the stream nearest the hotel (betw. stream and hotel garden). ~1545 we drove to the biological station and stopped just beyond the reserve boundary to set more traps. I set two lines of 20, David set two, Duke set three (one of which was along the road in the grass + brush). It rained again from ~1600-1730. Returned to hotel + made dinner ~1830. Afterwards David + I went out to walk along the stream with headlamps + lanterns looking fo
