San Cristobal to 3.9 mi NE Bochil, Chiapas, Mexico.
dec. cont.
Glance - seemed to be some mature pine/broadleaf
forest patches (although lots of agricultural
activity nearby). However, the pines proved to
be thinly scattered and the vegetation around
camp was mostly very dense secondary growth
(brush, vines, young broadleaf trees). I set 40
traps in the secondary growth near camp (w/ much
difficulty) in a line towards the forest, but never
reached it. Duke also set 40 traps - Shermans
baited w/ hen scratch, as usual. 10 were set in the
secondary growth, 30 were set in the woods on
the opposite side of camp from where I set my
traps. He says the pines were still very thin, lots
of dense understory, not many logs or rocks -
see D.S. Rogel's notes for fuller description. After
dinner, prepared study specimens from the 9 dead
Peromyscus w/ Duke + David. Heavy overcast
again; full moon sometimes seen through break
in clouds. Warmer than last night, ~15°C.
Turned in ~2130. Elev. here is about 1200 m.

Arose ~0630. Heavy mist, slight rain. Everything is
soaking wet (ie. tent sleeping bag, + soon to be me.)
Traplines in dense secondary only yielded 4 Peromyscus.
Species difficult to discern, may be oaxacensis.
Duke caught 1 Reithrodontomys fulvescens and
