E.Heske 1980 Journal Huixtla,s, Chiapas,Mexico December Arose ~ 0630. went with David + Duke in search of a place to get breakfast, but no restaurants were open at 0700. Gave up, decided to begin karyotyping. Duke took blood samples, karyotyped; I took tissue samples; David skinned - David + I prepared study skins. 8 mice karyotyped, including 1 more H.nelsoni. 4 died in cages and were just skinned + stuffed. Took from ~ 0830 - 1230. For information on specimens prepared (tissue, blood, sperm samples; glands preserved,etc.) see catalogue of D.S.Rogers. Ate lunch, siesta from 1330-1500. Planned to set traps for H.goldmani along rd. to Motozintla in the afternoon, but had car trouble again. Finally got a mechanic to fix it - new gas filter, tinkered with distributor and carburator. Seems OK now, but too late to trap (~2000). Cost 300 pesos. Ate at some restaurant for dinner (las Argentinas) - but waiter ripped us off - charged 320 pesos for dinner. Way too much. Went to bed pissed off ~ 2200. Huixtla,s to Pozo de Petrolio, 7mi N. of Berriozabal, Chiapas Mex. 8 December. Arose 10630 again, packed car and left Hotel. Headed NW on Hwy 200, to Tonala. Had some trouble getting unleaded gas, so got ~100 pesos worth of Nova to hold us. Bought some more ice, soda, a few groceries. They continued on Hwy 200 to Arriaga. Turned N on
