E. Heske 1980 Journal dec. to Berkeley, Alameda Co., Calif. USA to Puerto Arista, Chiapas, dec. Mexico, cont. around the city. WED. 10 DEC.: went to Direccion de la F.S. at 10:30, as requested, and had to wait until 11:30 to see the officer in charge of permits. David's was there, mine wasn't. Left Mexico City shortly after noon -- hell of a time getting out of there -- on 190 D to Puebla. Then 150 to Cordoba -> various un-numbered roads to Tonal, Chiapas, where we turned south to Puerto Arista. Took this route to avoid twisty mountain roads through Oaxaca. Last roads very pleasant driving, although in the dark. Arrived P.A. ~ 2AM, slept on the beach (or near it...). december Puerto Arista, Chiapas to Huixtla/Tapachula area, Chiapas, Mexico Awoke at ~0600. Puerto Arista has long, sandy beaches with rolling breakers ~ 1m. high. Spent the early morning talking with Alvarro (Ali) Gonzales, owner of a restaurant in town, friend of Duke Rogers, who is interested in the natural history of the area and caters to visiting biologists. Headed S on Hwy 200, through Huixtla to Tapachula. Looking for Cerro Mozotal (not on map) or/and Pinabete (located on topo. map, but no road to there). Decided to take looping road N from
