Jalapa to Playa Escondida, Veracruz, Mexico
another pr. yellow spots behind head, paired yellow
stripes on sides/back. Brown dorsally, light venter.
Several Eleutherodactyla sp. were also seen.
This is small (Hyla vegilla-sized) frog that has
directly-developing young and is commonly found
on leafy plants in rain forest.
From the canyon, we back-tracked to Jalapa,
then proceeded to Playa Escondida via
Veracruz, Alvarado, and Catemaco. I slept
most of the way in the back of the van. A
sunny, humid day. Arrived at our hotel
~1800 and unpacked, then ate dinner.
After dinner, ~2000, I went for a walk with
Ted, Kurt, David, and Gerhardt to look for
Bolittoglossa. We followed the road ~500m W
of the motel, then crossed a cattle-grazed
meadow on the N side of the road until we
reached a rocky stream. We then followed the
stream E for ~300m until we reached a path
heading S and back to our rooms. We arrived
there ~1330. The area along the stream was lush
with leafy vegetation. The broad-leaved trees
were strung with vines; also present were palms
