"small, thin gecko" Novraibson 1950 1/2 mi. E Buenaista Can Parado, 3100 ft. Buenaista, 4000 ft., Meta, Colombia, S.A. Nov. 21 Beneath 15"x10"x7" rock resting on damp sandy soil about 15' from 5' above water of clear, rushing mountain creek. Soil quite damp, but could not squeeze water from it. Temp. of soil = 19.9 C.; air temp at 6" (shade) at 9:50 A.M. = 21.8 C. Walls of canyon in which stream runs (on slope of which animal was taken) eroded clean by slides in spots; covered with 3'-8' ferns, dense brush, & vines in more-eroded spots (root of walls vegetated). Niche of animal - 90% shale Animal moved quickly, but was easily captured when it remained motionless after first movement. Its dark brown color closely matched the color of the soil. It was exceedingly thin-skinned and delicate, and dried up before it was preserved (probably from heat while still out in field) see Dr. Stebbins specimen of this genus. For this day - the two appeared identical to me. (RCS#5069)
