Novr 18 Villavicencio, 1600 ft., Meta, Colombia, S. A. Trinidad, about 255 km. N.E. of Villavicencio, in Boyaca (Dept.). Various officers told us many snake and animal stories, including finding an anaconda 3 meters long near officer's quarters (they dispatched men to try to find it again, unsuccessfully), a "babilla" (Caiman) found in the building (officer's quarters), a frog (Microhyla?) which is very common near the base in the rainy season ("it makes a noise like a cow or calf"), and a fish in the local streams which is attracted by blood in the water and consumes wounded animals very rapidly. (this fish story came up incidental to an account of caiman hunting - "it's easy to shoot a caiman with a rifle, but usually the fish eat it up before one can retrieve it from the water"). These men tell us that the rainy season is about April to June, and that we are in the dry season now ("it is driest in Dec. - March"). A fairly heavy rain fell yesterday afternoon and again this afternoon - we are told that this much rain is unusual at this time of year.
