2 June) clear if turns quite cool. the pectoral
influx is a general event - they are all over
the area - some try up to set up territories,
but still few ♀. Collected a number - 37 vary
widely in weight, but some are heavier than
any collected this season. Saw white-rumps for
the first time this year. Finished the job and
returned after midnight.
3 June
Barrow, Alaska
Spent the morning at home, thinking
Tom and Pete were our setting traplines. They
weren't - Tom decided that he had more
important things to do. Had to spend the
afternoon with Pete setting III & II, then
I & II. These are the only lines there are
in any condition to be run. Still lots of
pectoralis around - collected 3, and the
evening run of the traps got 2 more, (including
a ♀). Another beautiful, warm day. Still
at least 25 white-rumps on gasoline ridge.
The Pedicularis display there is magnificent.
Saw a group of 23 snowgeese overhead as
we did lines IV & V.
In the evening Holmes, Soikkeli, and
Safriel came up to the burr for a shorebird
confab. Unfortunately Soikkeli seems afraid
of this English, and Safriel definitely doesn't,
so we didn't hear much from Soikkeli.
