MacLean 1969 Journal (11 July) Put the new soo samples in after Dinner. there has been a big drop in both size classes of Pedicis larvae; all indications are that 1970 will be a poor year for Pedicis adults. 12 July Barrow, Alaska I'm falling into a pattern: lab work ( and sleep ) in the morning, field all afternoon, Barrow in the evening. today some unexpected mail - an offer of a 1-year job at the University of Montana- interrupted sorting of soo samples. Emergence traps in the afternoon. In the evening one of the Disney people - Hank Schloss - showed a nature movie re. a bbscar in Louisiana that he has produced. After that we went into Barrow and took in the movie there. Shorebird activity is about down to zero. 2 phalaropes and 7 peleals have departed; other birds are with young and are pretty quiet. there has been an increase in alping display - but I have the strange feeling it is being done by birds with young! In the evening the weather suddenly improved. Saw a flock of 8 black quillenots flying north.
