MacLean 1969 Journal (8 July) a test which revealed the problem with last year's emergence trap data. Dave put some crane flies in a trap; after a while, I looked for them. He put in 4♂ and 1♀ Pedicia. I found 1♂ Pedicia! Decided that we will have to clip the vegetation from the traps to remove hiding places. In briefly, then out to traplines III A-B to take a set of SOD samples. It was there, as everywhere very, very dry. Returned these to the lab, then out to lines IX & X to begin clipping the emergence traps there. In the process, Dave found Pedicia that he otherwise would have missed! A very elegant cocktail (beer) session with refreshments by Pitzelka with George West and the Norton crew. After dinner put the new SOD samples in the extractors, wrote notes, and into town. 9 July Barrow, Alaska Cold and overcast today. In the morning I counted tanglefoot boards and arranged for 2 camping-room boys to assist in clipping emergence traps this afternoon. Right after lunch Dave, Tom Schwan, the 2, and I went out.
