Maclean 1969 Journal (27 June) In the evening went in to Barrow to play basketball. 28 June Barrow, Alaska Not exactly a hyper-productive day. Sorted 800 samples, counted and cleaned the first set of tanglefoots and, in the evening, went out to change tanglefoots. Another beautiful night. Found 2 4-egg bairdii nests on south slope of Beach Ridge. A fair catch on the boards, but no tipulidae. 29 June Barrow, Alaska Finished sorting 800 samples, then went out for a new set. More warm weather, and lots of adult insects - although I saw no tipulidae. The tundra is quite dry, considering the time of year. Beach Ridge is very dry. took 8 cores from Central Marsh, between traplines III & VIII, 8 from low polygon trough system south of Amikpuk, NW of the road across Beach Ridge. The results of 800-sampling these jar indicate that last year's most productive emergence traps - by lines IX & X - will be less productive than the traps by tanglefoots I-1, 2, and 3.
