1 August) Al speaks to the funeral of Manie Simmones in
Barrow. It took longer than expected, shoptip
the whole evening.
2 August
Barrow, Alaska
Slept in a bit in the morning, then came
into sort 500 samples. Spoke with Brewer
about trips to Fairbanks to begin laboratory
processing of birds - it looks good for at least
one trip.
Finished sorting last set of 500 samples,
then sat down to plan optimal return from
500-sampling for the remainder of the season.
Went out to begin 3rd series by taking
samples at first site: flat at No. end of
A-B, and trough system under the new
cake-eater. Placed these in junnelle and sorted
the last batch until dinner.
After dinner I attempted to put up a
Spectacled Eider that Lang Hoar has
found on the tundra. Found out, unfortunately
far into the process, that it was too far
gone to salvage. Gave up - went home
to deodorize, then out to Bivnik for the
remainder of the evening.
3 August
Barrow to Meade River Coal Mine, Alaska
Edna and I packed our gear for
Meade River, then came to the lab to
sort a 500 sample or two. When Al
