Natfield - 1934 Colo R., 1/2 mi. N Calif. - Nev. Monument, 500 ft., Clark Co., Nev. February 7, 1934 Color series for California, it seems a waste of time to leave a trapline out for one gopher a day. Shot an ash-throated flycatcher and two white-crowned sparrows. Saw four western quateachers, three verdins, and 2 Saltoris song sparrows. Drove the truck to town for supplies in afternoon. Got back in time to set out [illegible] gopher sets north of camp, (12 traps). Saw two Albert towkees, a jay of the genus Aphelocoma, probably Woodhousei, a sparrow hawk, a red-tailed hawk, marsh wren, house wren, junco, mudhen, great-horned owl, and Crissal thrasher. Got just a glimpse of two muskrats along the edge of the slough, but was unable to get a shot at them. Heard a screech-owl, but was not able to locate it, though I did succeed in calling it somewhat closer by imitating it.
