The lack of mice may perhaps be accounted for by the fact that there are numerous predators present. The first night here we heard horned owls hooting in this general area, and I have seen very marky tracks of mammals such as [illegible] fox, [illegible], coyote.
Saw the? two ravens again this morning also a robin and one Albert towhee.
Fitch caught 6 woodrats (N. lepida and N. albigula) which I helped him put up in the morning. Moved camp leaving about 11 A.M. We were 1.3 mi. south of Brown's ferry. Saw a roadrunner on the way to the ferry.
Just after leaving the ferry on the Nevada side, saw a shrike and a cactus woodpecker. Stopped on way to Searchlight to take pictures of a pure stand of Opuntia. Saw a wood-rat nest in a cholla brush.
Got mail in Searchlight, then drove to Needles for supplies. Spent night 2 mi. north of Needles.
