was 9 to 13. The second night the
ratio of males to females was 6 to 7,
However, on the third night, the ratio
was 9 males to 4 females. Now, perhaps,
as has been suggested to me, this was
merely an example of the working of
the laws of averages; however, it seems to
me to show something more; that, since
the females were caught first, they may
be considered to be more active than
the males.
Took up traps in the morning.
Set 50 traps in creosote association.

5 ?? - Two with 1 x 14 mm. embryo.
Left traps out.
Went for water in the morning.
Hunted during the afternoon. Went
up onto first bottom of river. Walked
approximately 2 miles toward the moun-
tains on the west side of the river. The
entire time saw only one verdin, and I
shot that. It is surprising how barren
