different types of habitat, caught Oryzomya and Peromyscus also. Since we have a series of D. merriami, it was not deemed necessary to put up anymore as specimens though I shall perhaps put up 6 or so from this locality.
Saw a sparrow hawk flapping upward this afternoon, and some sage sparrows nearby set up a great hue + cry until it was out of sight, when they quieted down.
Shot a savannah sparrow this evening.
Set out 100 traps in association above quail brush.
Tonight noted that some bats were flying into one of the outhouses here on the ranch. On further investigation these proved to be leaf-nosed bats (Macrotis). We obtained several individuals by catching them with our hands. After securing a sufficient number for specimens, we observed some of their habits. They fly with a relatively slow wing beat, and when "hanging up", they make a half-turn roll thus:
