Jattfield-1934 500+ ft., Colorado R. 1# mi. NE 307 Searchlight, Clark Co., Nev. January 13, 1934 willow stump along the river bank. While I was watching the activities of a kinglet in a cottonwood a short distance from the river bank, I heard a loud splash, followed by 3 or 4 sharp slapping sounds. I immediately ran to the bank, but nothing was to be seen. Found some fairly fresh beaver cuttings near this place, so it is possible that I heard a beaver. However I am skeptical that a beaver could make so much noise. Tonight set traps in association above quail brush. This association is made up of a fleshy-leaved plant (#1 of botanical spec.) that appears to belong to the Chenopodiaceae. The association ends at the creosote bush. Set 50 traps, and, from the appearance of the trapping ground, expect to catch little beside Dipodidae. Saw several sage sparrows and 3 long sparrows in this association. Also saw numerous road-runner and coyote tracks, and small dust baths which road runners evidently use. Scored up a jack rabbit, but was unable to
