Hatfield - 1934 500+ ft, Colorado R, 1/4 mi. SE Searchlight, Clark Co. Nev. January 10, 1934. be restricted to this area. Saw a red-shafted flicker this afternoon but was unable to get a shot at it. Also saw several verdins, all in mesquite or high arrow-weed. One is struck by the apparent scarcity in numbers of species of birds present now. Watched a flock of 16 quail go to roost tonight. Perhaps it would be better to call them two flocks, because 5 came in from a north-easterly direction and 11 from the western side. They started flying toward the roosting place, an old dead, partly fallen cottonwood, at 5:12 PM, and by 5:20 all of them were at roost. They made much noise in getting settled, but were quiet soon after. They called back and forth when flying in, and about 20 yards from the roost, set their wings and glided in. Ran some trap-lines as on Jan. 9. January 11, 1934 Catch in 100 traps - 2 Dipodomys merriami 4 Peromyscus eremicus? This catch seems very poor for a line of 100 traps.
