at the Durkin Ranches inquire as to
suitable camping place. Saw a Grambell
white crowned sparrow there. Were directed
to the Updyke Ranch about 1 1/2 south of
Durkin's, and from there drove still farther
(about a mile) south and east to the present
camp, directly on the river. Set out 50 traps
in the arrowweed tonight, and heard quail
roosting going to roost, but was unable to see
them because of the dark.
January 9, 1934-
Caught in traps -
3 Peromyscus maniculatus
2 " eremicus
1 Dipodomys merriami
1 Pipilo aberti
One of the P. eremicus was badly chewed
and unsuitable for mounting.
The traps were set in an area densely over-
grown with arrowweed. The soil was cracked
and dry, evidently having been previously flooded.
The P. eremicus were both caught under two
solitary mesquite trees; the P. maniculatus
under dense arrowweed, and the D. merriami
in an open sandy spot.
During the day, saw several Albert tawrees,
4 Phainopeplas, 2 wrens, a sapouckes, and
a zmy sparrow.
