Caught in traps -
One immature gopher.
The gopher population seems to have been reduced.
Changed most of sets in morning to what appeared to be fresh workings. However,
it is rather difficult to tell whether
or not workings are fresh, since some
which were fresh 2 weeks ago appear
exactly the same now.
Shot a Say Phoebe and 3 Zonotrichius
all gambeli, from 3 different flocks.
In afternoon went hunting on the island.
Shot an Audubon warbler, 2 juncos,
a pipit, a marsh wren
In afternoon, late, went to agricultural
experiment station 7 miles north of camp
to look for Neotoma albigula. We had
been told by Snyder, an Indian here, that
there are two kinds of woodrats, large and
small, and that the Indians have a
name for each. The large ones, he said,
were found near this experiment station.
Fitch and I went up there, but found
no signs at all of Neotoma. There were
many fresh gopher wombs around.
