R.B. Hamilton 1967 Journal 3 km SE of Morrope, Dept. Lambayeque, Peru Sept.2 Carl went into the town of Morrope looking for kerosene. When he returned he said he had found a house that had some bats in it so me and I went back to catch the bats. We left about 13:00 and went into town. The streets are not paved and the buildings are of adobe. We went to house where bats are (house is abandoned) and find them hanging in a dark room. We blocked th open doorway with mistnet, and Carl caught bats with handnet. They were almost all Corilla sp. There was one vampire among them. We caught about six of these bats and then returned to camp. On way back we saw a snake that had been freshly killed in road. It was about 2 ft. long! It was sand colored with the back sort of speckled black and brown. Its coloration sug- gested that it was adapted for the desert. It was on road near area of large sand dunes. After we got back to camp, we all took live and snap traps in effort to catch Paralomys sp. before departed. I placed my traps in area of high sand dunes which was about one mile from camp- site and quite a hike. There were many mouse tracks here and it looked very promising. Others placed their traps in fence rows near camp. Near sand dunes was irrigated area where several species of birds were observed including Tawny-
