August 30 En route to Hualapampa, Dept. of Cajamarca, Peru and Fred collected it. Here we took pictures of this lizard in a pepper tree. Carl took pictures of some of the native children. By the time we left Hualapampa, it was doubtful if the car would make if over the mountain, so we stopped and set up camp.
Hualapampa, 2 km S, 16 km W of San Felipe, Dept. of Cajamarca, Peru, elevation 4000 ft.
We fixed the wheel here as well as we could and Fred and Carl set out traps while I set out 2 nets. I had planned to stay up with the net, but I wasn't feeling well so Carl said he would do that.
August 31 During the night the net caught about 20 bats. Most of the bats were Chorillia sp. one was a strange long-eared bat which we had not collected previously. Many vampires had gotten in the net but they were shaken out and not collected. Both Ray and Carl were successful in trapping. Both trapped Phyllotis andinum. We did not spend much time here as we were anxious to move on. This was the same spot at which we had camped August 17 and 18.
En route to Cerro Vieja, Dept. of Lambayeque, Peru About 10:00 we stopped at Porculla Pass (el.6500 ft.) and stopped. The area is mostly grassland and Ray and I decided to walk across the
