R.B. Hamilton 1967 Journal Rio Chunchuca, 19 km S, 27 km W of Jaen, Dept. August 29 seemed to be used by some animal, and I placed a trap in there. Unfortunately, when placing the trap in the tree, I put my hand on a scorpion whose sting was quite painful. There were several species of flycatchers, conebills, and hummingbirds at this site. After supper, I looked for owls but could not find any although the habitat looked good. Ray looked for geckos but was unsuccessful. Before retiring, I helped get some bats out of Ray's and Fred's nets which seemed to be successful especially in catching vampires. August 30 We awoke about 06:30. I got some bats out of Ray's and Fred's nets. I then picked up my trap; but did not catch any mammals. My trap in tree was sprung. I guess I should have used a larger trap. After breakfast Ray and I looked for herps We turned over many logs but found only a couple of geckos. About 10:00 we bathed in the river and then departed. En route to Hualapampa, Dept. of Cajamarca, Peru We retraced our route. We hoped to get to Por- culla Pass, but we were having trouble with the oil seal on our left rear tire.
