R,B. Hamilton 1967 Journal 5 km N, 5 km E of Pomacochus, Dept. of Amazonas, Peru, elevation 6000 ft. August 28 to collect a potoo, an owl, or one of the cracids that seemed to call regularly early in the day. The only one definitely identified has been the chachalaca. August 29 I intended to get up about 03:00 but I was lazy and did not arise until 04:30. I heard several potoos but could not get within range. I walked several miles along the trails hoping to hear an be close enough to a cracid to collect one, but I was unlucky. I did hear several tinamous but I did not get a look at them and was therefore unable to collect them. I had to return early to camp as we were planning to leave this area early today. On the way back I came across a large flock of mixed species of birds but they were mostly tangers. There were some piculets and dendrocolaptid among them. Most of the species had been collected previously, and I missed several shots of the species which were did not have in our collection. At one point I saw a movement in the brush close to the ground and got a look at the tail of an animal which looked like a squirrel. I took a shot at where I thought the body should be but unfortunately I had loaded the shot myself and it was a dud. (I had many shots last night but almost everyone
