August 26 trapped a good number of animals during the
night--mostly Thomasomys sp. and Akadon sp. Ray
trapped Akadon sp. and Oryzomys sp. I had
trapped many bats in my net which were all helped
to put up. Fred and Carl put up nets during the
daytime hoping to increase our take of birds.
Fred caught a Maranon Thrush (Tardus maranonicus)
in his net. During the day we all went hunting
but without much success. Ray collected a
Chestnut-crested Cotinga (Ampelion rufaxilla).
During the day I collected a Rufous-browed
Peppershrike (Cyclarhis gujanensis) in my net in
the ravine. I gave this to Ray to put up. Fred
put up the tanager. I took several birdswalks
during the day. On one I saw a toucanet. I saw
several other exotic birds but they were generally
high in the trees and impossible shots. Early
in the morning we heard several exotic sounds--
one was believed to be a patoo. After supper I
was again busy removing bats from net. I heard
owls several times and I was able to call one
large one over my head several times by squeaking.
Carl decided to sleep on top of nearby ridge
and look for night animals and collect them.
He and Fred put out traps in the woods.
