R.B. Hamilton 1967 Journal August 25 En route to Pomacochus, Dept. Amazonas, Peru There was much sign of animal life. Soon we came to a very large lake which is Pomacochus. We stopped in town to shop and then proceeded on, stopping a little way out of town at the site of an old sawmill at an area which is partially virgin and partially being cut at the time. 5 km N., 5 km E of Pomacochus, Dept. of Amazonas, Peru, elevation 6000 ft. Here I put up two nets--one on a cut hillside area of second growth--another in XX area of stream where small ravine flowed. I put out 25 traps. Ray also put out traps here. Before dark, I caught a hummingbird in my net in the ravine. It probably was Bronzy Inca (Coeligena coeligena). Ray checked his traps before going to bed. He caught several mice. I put up two Akadon sp. and one Oryzomys sp. I have been catching many bats in my nets at night, fre- quently having two or three there at once. I tried to check my nets about every hour until 02:00. By that time activity had ceased or lessened. August 26 We awoke at 06:00. We went hunting early and found in my net on the hillside a House Wren (Troglodytes aedon). I also managed to shoot a White-capped Tanager (Sericossypha albocristata) from high on a dead snag 75 feet in the air. I
