R.B. Hamilton 1967 Journal En route to Tingo, RioUtcubamba, Dept. of Amazonas, Peru, elevation 3000 ft. August 24 After going a short distance we found several lush gardens and a beautiful lush canyon by a mountain stream. We decided to camp here.even though it was still early in the day, since we liked the area so well. Tingo, Rio Uticubamba, 30 km S, 41 km E, of Bagua. Dept. of Amazonas, Peru, elevation 3000 ft. At first we hunted in a garden by the river. At the garden we collected two Blue-gray Tanagers (Thraupis virens) and saw several flocks of oropendolas plus their enormous nests. Humming- birds and warblers were common in the gardens. At our campsite we saw dippers several times but could not collect them--also Green Jays, vireos, oropendolas, and several Hawks. Our campsite was in a strictly riparian situation, a very moist area. Carl and I set out nets and Carl set out traps while I set out steel traps hoping to catch something interesting. After supper we heard a caprimulgid but could not collect it. Carl and I went hunting along the river hoping to find some eyeshine but were unsuccessful. We both managed to catch a bat in our net, however. We went to sleep about 22:00.
