El Arenal, 1 km S, 7 km W of Pomahuaca, on
Rio Huancabamba, elevation 3000 ft.
August 19 went night hunting. They collected a large
chameleon-like lizard high in a mesquite tree.
I went to bed about 22:00 and slept under my net.
August 20 I arose about 06:00 to a clear morning. Fred
had traps out last night and he caught one
Oryzomys sp. and one Fasciated Wren. I caught
a bat in my net. Both Fred and Ray went hunting
after breakfast. Fred collected a Bananaquit
(Coereba flaveola) and Ray collected a Black
Phoebe (Sayornis nigricans). Some natives
brought in a chameleon-like lizard and Ray col-
lected 2 Ameiva sp. lizards. They were quite
common running along on the sandy ground. Carl
was not successful in trapping any large cats.
He did collect one White-tipped Dove (Leptotila
verreauxi). About noon we brought in our gear,
broke camp, and proceeded on our way.

lizards. When questioning the boys as to why
they were carrying it by the tail, they said it
