August 15 We arose at 06:00. I ckecked my net and found a bat in it, but it escaped before I could get it out. Immediately after breakfast we left for Chiclayo to have car repaired. However, we stopped on road when noise got worse and dis- covered that the left rear wheel was coming off. So we fixed this problem ourselves and proceeded north.
En route to Jaen, Dept. Cajamarca, Peru
At Omos we turned east on road to Chachapoyas. We stopped occasionally to collect specimens and investigate countryside. We stopped at one area where a tree with large red flowers was con- spicuous. This tree had no leaves. There were many different birds feeding on flowers of these trees. Carl shot an ant bird, a Fasciated Wren, a wood hewer, The vegetation is getting more varied and soon we see occasional specimens-- such as fig (Ficus sp.) and others. In some canyons there are small patches of forest. A little further along we stopped at a bridge where Carl collected a Black Phoebe (Sayornishigricans and Ray and Fred collected 7 Tropidurus sp, and a Hyla sp. Further along we saw 2 snake tracks across the road. Tracks were about 2 in. across and since no car tracks had crossed them, they
