R.B. Ha milton 1967 Journal 3 km SE of Morape, elevation 100 ft., Dept. Lambayeque, Peru August 14 In the morning we picked up our traps but no mice were caught. (Fred caught 2 last night.) I saw several large birds flying over which proved to be ibises. On closer examination with field glasses I found them to be Buffed-necked Ibises (Theristicus caudatus), mockingbirds, and other birds that were reported here in July. We then drove to Chiclayo for supplies and mail and to have minor repairs on car. As Carl and I walked back from VW agency I caught a small Teid Lizard on sidewalk. At time I thought it was a skink. Then when Ray arrived, we looked for more and found several Amphisbaena, a Leptotyphlopus, several geckos, and other lizards under adobe bricks in vacant lot. About 16:00 we headed north but almost immediately we heard noises in wheel. We pulled off road near Lambayeque and set up camp. We were near city and were reluctant to hunt, but we did put out one net. Many bats were present but none found way into net. We talked to native who was hesitant to encourage us to stay at this spot. (It seems that natives are not as friendly near cities as in more remote places).
