R.B. Hamilton 1967 Journal 5 km E of Las Lomas, 60 km E of Sullana, Dept. Piura, Peru August 12 During the night Carl caught nothing in his traps and I caught nothing in my net.. We were unable to collect owls although we heard two several times during the night. After breakfast we left for Sullana. En route to Olmos, Dept. Lambayeque, Peru Along the road we collected 2 Saffron Finches (Sicalis flaveola). The male had large testes. These were the only birds in breeding condition that we found here. The breeding was probably due to extensive irrigation at this site. A Fasciated Wren (Campylorhyncus fasciatus) was seen crossing road with long straw in bill. (Nesting material??)The same birds were seen along river on way back as coming plus one Green Kingfisher (Chloroceryle americana). We then drove to Piura for supplies and lunch. After- wards we drove east to Abrade Naupe on Lambayeque-Piura border. We left road at crest of hill and drove to top of hill where we en- countered communications relay detour. Abrade Naupe 45 km S, 15 km E of Chulucanas, Dept. Piura, Peru We camped here at the top of hill with fine view of haze and fog to south and west. Here Ray, Carl, and I set traps.
