The mantle in We found four before our lantern burned out. We then returned to camp. August 11I checked my traps early but no luck. Carl had a half-eaten mouse in one of his traps, but he reported he had caught several last night when he looked. During breakfast Carl took a gun and shot a White-edged Oriole (Icterus graceannae), a Turquoise Jay (Cyanolyca turcosa), a wood hewer, and an ant bird. After breakfast I went hunting and shot an Amalaphia-like sparrow, an Amazilia Hummingbird, an Arremon sp. finch, and an Atlapetes sp. finch. I also shot a brown flycatcher and saw several other birds of dif- ferent speciation. Fred hunted after me and came back with a small sparrow and 2 woodpeckers. About noon Ray went to the dam where he caught several frogs and toads and a large Teid Lizard. Earlier he had caught a Leptotyphlops sp. lizard. During afternoon I set up net for owls and bats. We heard an owl last night. Carl again set out traps. After supper Ray and Fred went back to dam and collected frogs and toads. Carl and I heard an owl calling but were unable to get a shot at it. We slept out hoping to get a shot during the night but were unsuccessful.
