B. Hamilton 1967 Journal July 11 1 Km N, 12 Km E of Pariasco, Dept. Ancash, Peru. Elev. 8000' After supper Ray and I went looking for frogs again. Ray has earlier seen a frog carrying tadpoles on its back as no later frog one of them bit me unsuccessful. Then appear to be about four kinds of frogs and one too present in this small mountain stream (less than 1' across and 3-4 miles deep); but this is probably a "Hyli" type in active in daytimes and others are active at night. While I was out hunting for treefrogs I came across a rather large frog of probably weighs about 30 grams and resembles a Gray Fox somewhat. The fox milled slowly away when it saw me, I stopped about 40' away turned and sat and watched it. It milled east other about 5 minutes with me trying to decide if I should shoot it or not I finally decided not for and left the scene. About 0930 we all went to bed. Colin was doing some night hunting but without success. July 12 Morning was again clear as cool. The others went and checked their traps. I again saw a Giant Hummingbird but it again disappears before I could get within shotgun range. I did pull several minutes Pheasants - called Borassus, zontrichir expensis and Variable Serpulata 1 Sperophilus telasco out of the nest. I spent the rest of the morning putting up the birds I got yesterday. I've set his traps by morning changed or only caught 2 animals. Phyllotis darwini and Marmosa sp. About 1300 we left on our way back to Cosmo.
