July 21 Sagehen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif.
to sight. May have swum under
water to main house. No more
activity until 8:45 when I left.
Betty & I walked downstream al-
must to water intake where she
showed me where she'd watched
a beaver cutting & eating willows.
Left 9 PM. Weather clear all day.
July 22-Lower Rockslide colony 6:40 PM. Saw
one adult & young of Mt. quail
on roadside among manzanita
200 yds above rockslide. Young
dispersed & hid so I couldn't
tell how many there were.
Adult kept calling from about 15'
avay, evidently to keep young
in hiding. Adult had 2 plumes
or else a split one:

adult beaver with a willow cutting
entered water from N. shore &
began swimming upstream, lost to
sight just below main pond. 6:55
one appeared in water 10' from S
shore, cut willow, took it to shal-
low water in which it squatted,
facing shore & ate it, leaves first
and shoots, then bark from main
