J.G.Hall 1952 28 July 16 Sagehen Creek, 3mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif. nest after feeding at least one young. 9:00 getting hard to see. 9:10 so dark I can't see well. Climbed down just as I set foot on the log, 2 or 3 whales about 2' away startled me. a couple more whales in dame place, then a couple from end of pond. Shined flashlight but couldn't see the beavers. All quiet so left July 17 at 9:15 PM. 6:15 AM. back on olden platform but no activity visible. Left 7:15 AM and climbed knoll just S of beaver pond. Mules' ears on top & ceanothus on sides. Jumped a deer or two on way up but didn't get any good views. View of Sagehen Drainage from top of this knoll is the best so far. Bluebirds & a (olive-sided) flycatcher. Green tailed towhee on 10' pine in midst of ceanothus call was like junco's "tso" with occasional catbird-like meow. Some kind of wren in same tree.
