J.G.Hall 1952 27 July 16 Sagehen Creek, 3mi W Hobart Mills, Nevada Co, Calif fly-catchng insects. Tilt & come flew this way & that. When re- turning, usually settles back on same perch. Will go 40' to catch an insect. 7:30 flew up to settle on nest after feeding young briefly. Nest on limb of 10" aspen 35' above ground & is just plas- tered on a limb to another side- branch to form a supporting fork. Nest shallow & smooth-appearing. 7:35 flew off nest down to perch & more fly-catching. 7:40 back to nest. 7:45 large beaver first noticed swimming downstream from vicinity of winter-cut snag, but lost sight of him about 15' up- stream from house. Probably ent- ered it. Saw no more of him though. I watched carefully up/down- stream. 8:25. Pewee down to fly- catch again. Has 2 favorite perches, both dead snags overhanging pond, about 5' above surface & 20' apart. One is almost directly be- low nest. Another pewee calling off in trees to N. 8:30, back to
