Hall 1955 314 Sept 2 Sage Hen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif. in our initiated Woods & Carlisle when we stopped the truck. Unconcernedly made off for the timber. R/S:lide By 6:20 had camera set up aiming at dam no. 3 to try remote control of beaver cross- ing to or from level no. 2. 6:25 large unidentified adult appeared in pond 3 and went down over dam but at 1/2" tree overflow instead of main crossing. 6:27 one, presumably the same, dove by eye lodge. 6:45 adult whose tail was not visible seen in pond 3; swims around a bit, finally goes up fork. 7:00 still constant activity at eye lodge. He comes down pond 3, then back up & then down again to cross over same place as the adult had earlier. Took tele- photo as it did so. at 7:10. He "froze" at sound of shutter but then went on over. 7:11 bit seen coming around point to eye lodge. I think they must swim clear around this point rather than via any channel connection in the big island, as the opening of this channel is down- stream from where I first see them. following disappearance in upper part of level 2. 7:12 8 kingfisher alights on See p. 314A.
