306 Hall 1955 Aug. 17 Sage Hen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif. Upper me and began to eat bark from asp trimmings. Had good look at its tail. ( ). This was probably the same beaver as the first 2 observations. It chewed on trim- mings for 5 min, holding stick in a corn- cob fashion but t first 4 fingers above the last or "little" finger below. It went off to the bank den t the trimmings. 5 min later a beaver appeared in pond, coming from the den & probably t but tail not clearly visible, hauled ashore on south side, "primped" and then crossed over to pond above this one. Left about 8.15 Aug 22 Arr. old tree at main pond 6:30 PM & clear, lower warm weather. Some activity near the lodge as 2 approached. 6:40 a bit left lodge via the N exit, returning to cut willow near lodge at 6:45. 6:50 And. warbler in gall dress foraging on willows at water's edge. 6:55 bit still active near lodge. 7:00 2 bits now abroad and a large beaver is seen working on willow over by willows at the N end of main den. One & then both bits cutting willow. 7:05 a very small flycatcher t one buffy wing- bar lands in my tree & calls "chulic". a bit swishes up the channel Probably trails'. Then saw a jadedated warbler.
