J.G. Hall 1952 Sagehen Creek, 3mi NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co, Calif July 6 just before the full moon appeared and visibility was extremely poor. July 7 Left 9:15PM. Upper colony 11:30 AM. Marked about 175 aspens showing beaver workings; guess this to be perhaps a little less than half. 2", 3" 1", 4", 5", 6", 7", 8", 12", 9", 11" <1" commonest in that order so far. Will continue tomorrow. Elder as substantial food item here in contrast to situation in the other colonies. Will have to devise some sampling method to work on them & perhaps willow as they are too numerous to treat as completely as aspen. Left July 8 4PM. Upper colony 10:30 AM. Continued marking used trees until 2:15 and must have 90% of them. Totals marked up to this time tabulated below: Diam (1' from ground) Felled X or - Girdled Partly Girdled completely, X but standing < 1" 2 1 54 2 120 2 3 71 4 4 31 4 1 5 16 2 lodged L
