Hall 1955 299 Aug 8 Sage Hen Creek, 3 mi NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co, Calif. Lower lodge so I can't see his tail. 7:25 The last of first caught right of 3rd seen swimming around SW of lodge; marks show OK. At 7:30 she goes ashore to cut willow which she dives into lodge, from which mewing is then heard. 7:53 fair size, unmarked beaver comes down SW channel, cuts a willow & dove 30' from lodge. This may be the same one seen earlier going up. 7:53 large beaver, tail not visible, leaves lodge via N exit & swims to deep water of main pond. Left 8PM & checked all traps. Porkey seen by pond or way turn at sta. 17. Aug 9 6:00 AM at Bend: 1 adult & full band (There must be two families then) plus 3 young grasse. 6:05 yearling in uppermost trap set just below sta. M17. Trap's side arms had fallen loose due to broken bolt on bottom of trap so that trap lay on its side. Could easily have drowned him but luckily he had just enough space to breathe. Marked - tail: ( ) & released. Two middle traps not sprung; lowest one sprung but no inmate. Left 6:25. Temp got down to 28 by 6 this AM so guess I'll quit trapping.
