296 Hall 1955 Aug 3 Sage Hen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif. Lower pond. at 8.30 found large, adult, lck Q in lowest trap (at 5 end of main dam). Another beaver was swimming around: diving & splashing as I worked on the Q which I noticed: U <- natural gash Aug 4 7:30 AM. checked the 3 remaining traps (2 didn't reset the above one) to find me sprewg but no beaver in any. Returned at about 8 to camp. Back down again by 4:30 to reset all 4 traps, changing site of two. 6:15 climbed up leaning tree at shade colony. Kingfishers and chidarees. 7:20 beaver surfaced in center of pond, floated, cut a little arilow, to dive & a splash at 7:25. 7:45 2 does. 7:55 a beaver surfaced near main dam. Tail unmarked. I left at 8; beaver still in sight. Checked all traps Aug 5 again before leaving. // checked trap 8:15 AM to find large Q in trap set just below dam immediately opp the shade itself. Fold of skin pulled loose below left eye. Bleached him in 2 spots, notched tail & released. U <- notch [illegible] <- bleached Let total bleach set for 15 min.
