J.G. Hall 1952 20 July 4 Sagehen Creek, 3mi NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co, Calif. Don't know what killed these trees. Walked down farther past fence line into meadow full of herefords to see what a white semicircle is that shows up on the aerial photo. It turned out to be an old R.R. led. Ever ranch bldgs visible beyond. Land very open & swampy or meadow- like & obviously not fit for C. canadensis. Didn't accomplish much this trip other than scouting downstream to Ever Ranch & locating the site of the lower dam on the aerial photo. Wish there were some photos of less than 13 years age. Weather calm & clear all day. Got back to car 4:30 PM. July 6 Rockslide colony 8:30 PM. Went along with Glenn who was fishing in pond by lodge. He could catch 3 brown & a brook on mayfly nymphs. Codles of mayflies hovering about. Saw beaver after hearing 3 "whacks" near same spot just below the dynamited dam. Sound just like a rock thrown into the water. The beaver I saw swam back & forth 50 yds or so down from me, evidently eyeing us carefully. Don't know if the 3 whacks were from one or 3 beavers. This was
