287 Hall 1955 July 8 Sagehen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif. Upper lct. & last year, 7:10 (J) appeared in the pond, swam about reconnoitering a bit before crossing over this dam, the one below and going to N shore to cut a little willow & feed on it in shallows. Dove 7:16, emerged 7:23, went down over another dam to cut willow & then hauled it all the way up to "death" pond before diving - it. 2 left & climbed to my perch by 7:45. 8:15 (J) came down over deadfall dam via N channel, pulled handfuls of asp bark off a large nearby tree twice to eat. At nearly same time (J) came down into main pond over middle channel and entered lodge. This is the first definite sight I've had of this beaver this season. Still appears a little smaller than Double Notch. Double Notch entered lodge w piece of asp bark. 8:30 Double Notch appeared in pond & crossed over main dam to cut willow. Then (J) emerges, begins to do same, reverses & dives back into lodge. July 9 Camp Left 8:35 // 10:30 PM. Belly & I saw a snowshoe rabbit on road to our camp. July 10 Rslide Snag at 7:05, calm & warm after overcast day
