Hall 1955 285 July 4 Sagehen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif. R'slide, guy nurse some more. ♀ starts to climb up another lpole & guy begins to follow but decides against it & goes off on his own. ♀ decides to come down, using tail as a brake somewhat in woodpecker fashion, flipping it sharp- ly away from bark when she wants to go down a "nolth". 8:20 chased ♀ up tree, showed no inclination to defend the young. Yng "bristled" well. The hair on yng was actually black tipped with white. Perhaps this is usual for yng of yellow hairs. Worked my way back up to pond 4, then 8 but no more beaver in view. Left 8:35. July 5 main camp 8 PM. 2 live grozbeaks in lpole July 6 lay cook bldg. R'slide Am. 6:30 at pond 4 where a beaver was swimming calmly. Set up camera on S dam & was in posis. on N dam by 7. Weather warm & calm. 7:25 beaver came up pond & willow and dove into lodge. 7:35 one seen swimming back and forth in north channel and another suddenly emerges from lodge with food & swims down- stream. 7:40 one swims up toward
