Hall 1955 274/ June 24 Sagelun Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif. Ratide rolls it into a ball to be deposited about 1' up on shore. Reason? Have seen lots of these along shore this summer. 7:17 another beaver emerges from lodge, swims back & forth, "earing the joint" as usual, before coming out on S shore to chew on grass. Tails obvious so it must be the breeding & tho' it looks a little smaller than ♂. 7:23 a third beaver comes in sight .. three in sight now. This one's tail has a white mark & a discolored "moon" on the tail: One goes up main channel & I've lost trails of all but one. 7:27 ♀ climbs up one N dam to cut willow and then an- other one goes up lay weir to cut willow. 7:30 the one from the weir reenters water - big bunch of willows, is im- mediately followed by ♂ & both dive at about 5 dam. 7:40 ♂ comes from N channel to xing a load of mud in fore- paws & goes over crossing into bank bur- row. 7:50 ♀ goes on down N channel. 7:55 "red-tail" beaver emerges from lodge & it too has a white spot on dorsal tail surface but it is much nearer edge of tail, ♂ about 1/2" and is seen to be the last ♂ as it comes into a cove on S shore
