Hall 1955 271 June 21 Sagehen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif. Upper lodge. Saw Aud: warbl. + red-breasted sapsucker. Marking schedule: none!! V. unusual. Two 2"ers should be marked in last fall's schedule. Left 10:45 June 22 Arr. on seat 6:35 PM. Weather clear but very windy as it's been all day. 6:50 spotted beaver coming down the "middle channel" above main pond. He crossed over into the N channel pond where he gets an asp branchlet, recrosses in to middle channel + disappears upstream. Got two good looks at tail which was notched: ( ) which is the "female" 2yr- old caught + marked here Aug 8 last summer. At 6:58 another beaver, same size first seen in same part of N chan- el where the first one got asp branchlet. This one got asp. bark morsel from bottom of pond + had strange habit of raising its tail, arched, out of the water while diving. Am fairly sure it was unmarked but didn't get a very clear view. It came down over dam into main pond + dives into lodge. 7:10 beaver seen in "moat" N of lodge where it stands up to bite some asp off trunk of a 10" tree felled over the
