Hall 1955 268 May 22 Sogethen Creek 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co, Calif. R'slide new maintenance but "slides" lead to it and a scent pile is nearly. Fisherman reported seeing beaver swim into the lodge at main pond, so it must be in use still. June 19 Left Berkeley 9 AM ~ Hoffmann, arriving there about 3:30. Helped him set out his traps June 20 at Kiln Indw. Mosquitoes bad // Spent most of day setting up camp for the 2 wives R'slide + 3 children. In eve went to Rakeslido to observe beaver ~ Hoffmann, Allan Sutton & Pete Brussard. Hoffmann climbed tree just below main dam, Pete & 2 climbed the one at Pond #4 (the old faithful) and Al climbed one right next to us. We got in place by 7:25. Noticed a new scent mound on shore on N side of channel opp. the island. 7:45 beaver came up N fork, over the crossing into main pond. Got hasty glimpse of tail as diving he crossed and it appeared to have a notch at far end: ( ). 8:05 reappeared and swims around in pond. The notch on the tail shows white borders (just like a newly-notched tail does). Tail also has a transverse mark: (-). This may or may not be the one + only
